Ontario job training programs to receive funding

Press release from Assemblymember Norma Torres

Assemblymember Norma Torres (D-61) announced today the approval of two grants for two job training facilities in the city of Ontario. The National Tooling & Machine Association (NTMA) Training Centers received close to $398,000 in funding and Universal Healthcare Systems received $64,688. The funds were approved by the Employment Training Panel (ETP) to support the overall California economy by ensuring that employers have trained workers that can compete in a global economy.
"This training is critical to enable and update the skills of our employees. I'm glad to see that the panel understands the importance of job creation and the significance of staying competitive," said Torres.
Last month, ETP approved $7,360,497 in special job training funds to upgrade the skills of thousands of California workers across the state in the sectors of manufacturing, aerospace/defense, green/clean technology, multimedia/entertainment, healthcare and construction. ETP was founded in 1982 and is a public statewide economic development program to support the overall California economy. ETP is the largest state-funded, industry specific training and employment program in the country.
At the forefront in its field, the panel primarily funds retraining for incumbent workers of businesses threatened by out of state competition.
"By providing these funds to training centers we are ensuring that businesses have skilled workers- to not only retain, but also attract businesses to California. The businesses that received the funding have been able to expand their operations or activities which lead to the hiring of new or previously laid-off employees," Torres said.
The panel program is a collaborative effort, in which public-private partnerships between business, labor and the government join forces to provide the necessary skills to workers for businesses to stay competitive. NTMA Training Centers of Southern California is located at 1717 So. Grove Avenue, Ontario, CA 91761 and you can find Universal Healthcare Systems, Inc., at 1533 E. Holt Blvd., Ontario, CA 91761.
