Resident Ruben Valencia came to the March 5 City Council meeting to inform the council how well the city’s police and fire department did at the softball fundraiser tournament.
According to Valencia, money was raised for the Ontario and Chaffey baseball programs, although he did not provide an amount.
“I know the police department are proud they took the trophy this year. I was amazed to see the police chief (Eric Hopley) glad to report that he actually had a base hit. As far as the fire chief, we already told him he needs to find a batting cage,” he said.
But, Valencia said, the tournament was great because it recognizes youth in the community and can help them excel and have extracurricular activities.
