Beverly Speak, CEO/executive director of Kids Come First in Ontario, sent me an email this morning to remind us that the “flu has arrived here in SoCal.”
Speak said the waiting room at Kids Come First was packed this morning with parents and kids waiting to be seen.
“We still have a good supply of flu vaccine for both children and adults, and are eager to get folks immunized as quickly as possible. It is not too late — but the vaccine takes about two weeks to reach full effectiveness, so now is the time to come on in,” Speak said in her email. ”We can take our vaccine clinic ‘on the road’, coming to schools, preschools, worksites, churches — wherever we can reach groups of people who can benefit.”
The public can also call or visit the office. Vaccines are free to everyone who needs one, ages 6 months and up, she said. Even if you are not at high risk, if you are around infants or older adults, you can infect young or older loved ones, or folks with compromised immune systems.
“This is a nasty bug, and we should all do what we can to protect ourselves and each other,” Speak said.
To schedule a vaccine clinic for your own group, or to find out where/when to come to get immunized, call Kids Come First at 909-455-4832 or email Cynthia at cprendiz@kidscomefirst4health.
