While much of the "Melrose Place" cast was missing from the Friday night bash celebrating its DVD release, much of the first-season cast from "Beverly Hills 90210" was presented an accounted for (the noteable exceptions being Shannen Doherty and Luke Perry).
I spoke with Jason Priestly but I didn't want to talk about Brandon Walsh! I wanted to talk about the gay-themed indie films he has appeared in like "Die Mommie Die" in which he played a bisexual and shared a sexy smooch with the movie's star, Charles Busch (in convincing drag). "Charles Busch is a good kisser," Jason says. "I thought we were a good couple." I asked if that film resulted in him having more gay fans. "Really that came from 'Love and Death on Long Island," he says.
jason6.jpgWe also talked about "90210" and where his character Brandon might be today: "I'm sure Brandon's got a drinking problem and he probably decided to be a war correspondent in Iraq."
He has fond memories of the show that made him a star: "It's been an absolute blessing and so much of what I do today is rooted in my experiences on this show and the lessons I learned from Aaron Spelling. I have the show to thank for a lot in my life."
BrianAusti_150x208.jpgAs Priestly began to walk away, Brian Austin Green (David) grabs Priestly and plants a big kiss on his cheek for photographers: "I think I got some earlobe!" Green joked.
Green, who was hilarious as Freddie Prinze's best friend in the ABC sitcom "Freddie" last season, is still a bit upset that the show was cancelled.
"I just feel like we were shortchanged," he said. "We were cut short, they really cut the ambylical cord on that one."
ian22.jpgNow, while most women and gay men were busy havong cruishes on Priestly or Perry (Dylan), I was all about Steve (Ian Ziering). I loved the humor and sweetness in his character and well, what a body! While he would be jealous that Brandon would often get the girl over him, their friendship always preservered and I thought was one of the strongest relationships on the show. It felt real and the two actors were very funny together.
"It was like going to the playground every day," Ian told me. "It was like a bunch of lunatics running around. We're all great friends and a lot of us still live close together...but not in the 90210."
