Donny Osmond proposes to Nathan Lane (on stage)

donny_osmond.jpgOK, so here it is, the truth. I think Donny Osmond is a babe, OK? And I think he's a wonderful singer and genuinely nice man. I interviewed him about the DVD set of the "Donny and Marie" variety hour shows released this month and will share it in a future post.

But as an appetizer, here is a funny thing that happened last night in NYC at a fundraidser for the Christopher Reeve Foundation when Donny (a grandfather now!) had some fun with the openly gay Tony Award winner Nathan Lane.
Here is the account from the NY Post's PAGE SIX:
Donny Osmond brought down the house when he coaxed Nathan Lane onstage and sang him a love song from "Beauty and the Beast" at the Christopher Reeve Foundation fund-raiser at the Marriott Marquis the other night. Lane, playing Belle to Osmond's Beast, deadpanned, "My God, I thought you were Mormon!"

Then, as Meryl Streep, Barbara Walters, Joan Collins and Miss USA Tara Conner watched, Osmond pulled Lane onto his knee for a mock marriage proposal. Streep, who'd earlier been asked to play Belle, told the crowd she'd made many important decisions in her career, and "not being part of that skit was one of them."

C'mon Meryl, it sounds like a lot of fun!

I think you misunderstood what she said. I read it as saying that the moment wouldn't have been as special if she HAD been in the skit.

It is a great compliment to Lane and Osmond (love them BOTH!!).

I really like Donny Osmond because he is one of my favorite singers of all times because when he came out with a ne CD called Love Songs of the 70's starring the one and only Donny Osmond.
