"Sex and the City" on the big screen?

039_39365~Sex-and-the-City-.jpgThere is word that my beloved "Sex and the City," the show that I think is really about four gay men living and loving in Manhattan, may finally be made into a movie after all! That's according to the latest issue of OK! magazine. and because I want this to happen so badly, I'm going to have to take OK! magazine as gospel, just this once.

The magazine states that negotiations are now in full swing with the four leading ladies of the series and that early results points to the movie entering the production stage. "Obviously, there is still a lot to be worked out contractually, but it would be amazing to get this project off the ground," a source tells the mag.

Since I wasn't aware of this possibility when I met series creator Darren Star at the "Melrose Place/90210" reunion event a few Fridays ago, I didn't ask him about a movie. But i did say to him, "The show was really about four gay men, right?" He looked at me, annoyed, and said: "No."
Me: "OK, well at least Samantha Jones, she's gotta be based on a gay man, right?"
Darren: "No. She's Samantha."

Alrighty then...

sex%20and%20the%20city.jpgSince the show completed its six season run two years ago, the four stars have gone on to other projects. Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie) has been the most successful commercially with the hit big screen comedies "Failure to Launch" and "The Family Stone" and just wrapped the drama "Spinning Into Butter."
Cynthia Nixon (Miranda) has had the most artistic success with a Tony Award for the play "Rabbit Hole" and Emmy, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild award nominations for her portrayal of Eleanor Franklin in "Warm Springs."
Nixon, who along with Parker won an Emmy for the show's final season, has also came out as a lesbian in a committed relationship.
Kristin Davis (Charlotte) had a mid-sized box office hit last spring starring opposite Tim Allen in "The Shaggy Dog" and on Nov. 22, she has the feature film "Deck the Halls" out which also stars Parker's real-life hubby Matthew Broderick.
sex-and-the-city-photo-sex-.jpgKim Cattrall (Samantha), who is widely blamed for the film being sidetracked in the first place with script and salary demands, failed to make much of a box office splash in her post-'Sex" feature "Ice Princess" and the little-seen Him and Us." But she has the indie film "The Tiger's Tale" making the film festival circuit and was a sensation on the London stage in "Whose Life is it Anyway?"

Will keep ya posted!
