Golden Globes: Down memory lane with Will Ferrell...

awillFerrell2.jpgSo my colleague and awards show buddy Sandra Bererra and I are waiting outside the Beverly Hilton last night for a shuttle to take us back to our cars that are parked in Century City. We notice that a VERY curly-haired Will Ferrell is standing on the sidewalk with his wife waiting for his limo. I don't really know Will but I used to a little bit. It was back in 1990 or so and we were both part of a class that put on a weekly newscast on public television. I didn't think much of Will then because he was very quiet and seemed to take himself very seriously. But as he got famous on "SNL" about five or six years later, I dug up a VHS tape I had of one of our "Around and About Orange County News" shows and realized that I introduced one of his pieces when I was anchoring the program. It was on the water company or something. I mangled his name too! I had trouble with the W's and the L's. Try saying it fast three times.
I don't know where the heck the tape is now but I dug it out every so often in the 90s to show to friends. So when I saw him last night, I thought it would be fun to remind him of those days. "I'm glad to see you moved on to what you really wanted to do," I told him. He kind of chuckled but seemed really uptight. I can see why. People wanted to taKe his picture, someone else came up and said, "I worked on the crew" of some film or another. Ferrell kept calling for the limo service on the cell phone and clearly could not wait to get the hell outa there.
I guess I picked the wrong time to go down memory lane.
