Meryl votes for Al Gore over SAG awards...

Good thing I got to have a moment with Meryl Streep during the Golden Globe Awards last week because the greatest actress ever will be skipping Sunday's Screen Actor's Guild Awards where she is a nominee for best actress for "The Devil Wears Prada."
7 5.jpgThere are some who believe that Streep was so funny and gracious at the Globes where she won for best actress in a comedy that she may have enhanced her chances of winning the Oscar. Helen Mirren remains the heavy favorite and will likely win Sunday too but wouldn't that be cool?
So here's why Meryl will be missing the SAG Awards: she will be co-hosting, with Al Gore, the 10th annual benefit for Harvard Medical School∂s Center for Health and the Global Environment. She and the former veep will present the center's Global Citizen award to Prince Charles "for his outstanding commitment to sound environmental stewardship."
The event was planned a year ago, and Meryl felt she couldn't renege on her commitment in spite her nomination. "I am honored to be nominated and wish I could be there to celebrate with my fellow SAG members," she said in a statement Thursday.
We wish you could be too!
