Dave Koz to entertain at Oscar's Governor's Ball...
At last year's Academy Awards, while I was doing interviews on the red carpet, Wolfgang Puck came by with a tray of his mini chocolate Oscars. He gave me one. I ate it. It was gooooooood. He was showing us some of the food he would be serving to guests after the show at the Governor's Ball.
My ticket must have been lost in the mail. Because after the show, the closest I got to the Governors Ball was when I walked by the front doors of the shindig with a laptop computer bag slung over my shoulder. I was going direct from the interview room at the Kodak Theater to a bus shuttle parked on Orange Avenue that took me and other journalists back to the Arclight parking structure.
Real glamorous, huh?
So it is with great envy that I report some of what will happen at this year's bash as reported by my colleague, L.A. Daily News food editor Natalie Haughton, who got a preview this week. The ballroom will be divided into five pavilions and the food will consist of the main buffet, tray-passed appetizers, tapas, sushi and seafood stations - more varieties of food than ever - will be orchestrated for the 13th year by Puck.
Puck and his team will be serving 800 pounds of chicken, 1,200 pounds of lobster, 40 pounds of black truffles and 20 pounds of white truffles. They will be smoking 60 sides of salmon for the must-have traditional Smoked Salmon Oscars With French Farm-Raised Osetra Caviar.
The vent's pastery chef, Sherry Yard, is making 200 two-pound Valrhona organic bittersweet chocolate Oscar statuettes with 24-karat gold dust blown on them to decorate the platters. As is traditional, she's also preparing 3,000 smaller chocolate Oscars for guests to take home.
That's all enough to make me really bitter - especially since I will likely be having an In-N-Out Burger or something. Well, that sounds pretty darn good actually.
But I will miss the opportunity to see saxophonist Dave Koz as the featured entertainment. He's a perfect choice since he just released his new CD of movie theme and I am so proud to have an out and proud gay musician performing for the A-listers.
Dave is ready for his close-up...
