aanthony.jpgSinger Anthony Callea, a former runner-up on "Australian Idol" is receiving strong fan support after being outed on the radio. Eye in the Sky reporter Vic Lorusso seemingly outed the singer after mentioning meeting Callea while discussing an old school mate on TheEdge's morning show.
"You wouldn't know him. He's a nice guy but his partner, which is Anthony Callea, didn't want to know anything about anybody," he told host Christo.
A spokeswoman for the show claimed Lorusso had not been taking a pot shot at Callea: "Vic had no idea that it wasn't common knowledge."
Readers of The Daily Telegraph were quick to back Anthony.
"This was being talked about on radio during his time in Australian Idol & it did nothing to dent his popularity, so why should this? There is nothing wrong with this, said Karen of Sydney. Lea of Tasmania said:"I don't know whether the man is gay or if he isn't, nor do I particularly care... that has no bearing on his talent, but what a great shame if he is and was not granted the right of any other gay person to decide for himself when or even whether to
'come out' . Anthony, a fan in Melbourne said:"I'm proud to say i'm an Anthony Callea fan, he's an amazing singer, songwriter & is very talented. His sexuality has nothing to do with it."
