Mexican pop star Christian Chavez comes out!
Before today, I had not heard of Christian Chavez, a singer for the Mexican pop group RBD. But now I have after he announced that he is gay after photographs showing him marrying' another man showed up on the Internet.
''I don't want to keep on lying and lie to myself because of fear,'' Chavez said in a statement posted on the group's official Web site. ''I feel bad for not having shared this with all my fans before, as they are the ones that worry and it is because of them that I decided to be honest.''
That is such a wonderful statement don't you think? It has a lot of heart.
A series of photos had appeared on the Web site www.latingossip.com showing the 23-year-old star, known for his ever-changing hair colors, with another man with short black hair. The photos were taken in Canada in 2005 and show the two signing documents, exchanging rings and giving each other a kiss. Canada became the fourth country in the world to legalize gay marriage in July 2005.
Chavez stated that the photos ''show a part of me, a part that I was not prepared to speak of in fear of rejection, of criticism, but especially for my family and its consequences.''
''Although I'm scared and filled with uncertainty I know that I can rely on the support of my fans,'' he added. ''Their love is bigger than all of this. I ask them from the bottom of my heart, not to judge me for being honest and to feel proud of who they are and never make the same mistake I did. Tolerance to diversity!''
Good for Christian Chavez! I think he'll be a lot happier now and probably gain a lot more gay fans!

Greg Hernandez has covered the entertainment industry for the Daily
News since 2001. He's considered a bit odd by some for his obsession
with box office numbers, has been known to camp out near the kitchen
at premieres for first crack at the hors d'oeurves, and Greg's never
seen a red carpet he didn't want to stroll down.

The best part of Chávez's statement, I think, was this: "I believe love is the purest feeling that exists and in this career
filled with loneliness, having the opportunity to share those moments
with someone, that when you look into their eyes, you forget all the
negative things, it’s a gift of life, that I cherish more than fame."
Makes you think he might have something that will last.

The basic gravity of the situation is that Christian Chavez RBD has emerged from the closet.
His group is worshiped by millions of kids in Mexico, Center and south America including millions of Spanish speakers in the U.S. Canada and throughout the world.
In these groups of millions are hundred of thousands who have had no one to identify with because they are gay. Christian Chavez and RBD can turn this around and save possibly save hundreds of gay youth from suicide because of low self esteem though Latin American.

I am happy he has finally gotten that big burden off of his chest. He is a very talented man, and I will always be amazed and awed by his talent, as well as the rest of RBD. He is brave for coming out, and I hope he doesn't get ridiculed for it.
