The LGBT community could not ask for a better straight ally than Judith Light who continues to give of herself and is absolutely loved for it. I asked this wonderfully warm and caring woman at the GLAAD Awards last weekend if she thinks more straight people are joining in the fight for LGBT equal rights these days.
"I would hope so," she said. "I think it's real important. As long as it's just the gay community doing for itself all the time, it's fine, it's wonderful, but when other people realize there is a lot of denegration against the community still, the straight people need to say, "Wait. This is a civil rights issue.'"
So have things improved for LGBT people since she first became involved more than two decades ago?
"Oh, there's definitely movement but as far as I'm concerned, it's never enough."

Then onto lighter topics. I asked her what it's like to be on "Ugly Betty," which won GLAAD's best comedy series award. Light plays the mother of Eric Mabius's character and of the transsexuial daughter Alexis [formerly Alex] portrayed by Rebecca Romaijn.
"I just love it, I really, really love it."
Light's mother thought her son was dead so when he returns, as a woman, she is overjoyed - no matter what gender he is.
"She got her child back and that's all the matters. That's all that should ever matter."
