Oscar! Oscar!

aaaaoscar.jpgHe's not gay, but he plays gay on TV...in two different shows!
He's the very funny Oscar Nunez who plays Oscar Martinez on the NBC comedy "The Office." He also plays a gay prostitute on the Comedy Central series "Halfway Home" which he created and is an executive producer. I gabbed with Oscar at the GLAAD Awards a few night ago and here is what is fit to print!
Nunez said when he signed on to the do "The Office," Oscar was straight as far as he knew.
"He became gay!" he said, laughing. "In the middle of the first season, there were some rumors going around. People were saying, 'Oscar could be gay. We could make Oscar gay.' Then they had written the script and I saw the script and there it was: Oscar's gay. Then [Executive Producer] Greg Daniels comes up and says, 'Oscar, do you mind if we make your character gay?' I said: 'The script is written! Why are you asking me now?' I thought that was very funny."
Accounting_Staff.jpg"I'm playing him the same because the guy is gay but he's not going to act differently because he' gay. It's weird though because now that I know he's gay, I have to resist playing it like a little bit gay whatever that means to me which is really wierd. So I'm trying to play him the way he was before because he was gay the whole time. He just wasn't out."

On Oscar's love life on the show: "He's got a boyfriend now, an [average] looking guy named Gale. I wanted someone like a cute, young guy. I mean, if I have to kiss someone."
On same-sex kissing scenes he says: "If they write it into the script, that's your job."
Nunez says the gay prostitute he plays in "Halfway Home" is actually easier to play because "he's insane and I have fun with that. He's crazy and I love playing crazy characters who take themselves too seriously."
