Kathy Griffin on "the gays" that are her loyal audience...

kathyfence.jpg
In a Newsweek article, Kathy Griffin tlks about her loyal gay fan base and why she connects with them so well. But before I share an excerpt, I want to urge you to catch tonight's episode of her Bravo reality show "My Life on the D-List." I watched a screener last week and it dealt with the illness and death of her beloved and very funny father. Her parents have been regulars in the show and could be seen popping over for a visit and drinking their wine. They were delightful. The episode has its lighter moments (prior to her father's death, obviously) as Kathy goes to Jackie Warner of "Workout" for some tips on how to win over the lesbian crowd on Rosie's cruise. Her dad dies as she is flying to the cruise.
Here is part of what Griffin had to say to Newsweek:

"As I learn more about the gay community I think it's kind of about fighting to be part of something and fighting to be noticed and taken seriously but always with a sense of outrageousness. That's what I love about Bette, because she used to say "F--- 'em if they can't take a joke." And then there's Liza, who overcame drugs and this overbearing man or that overbearing man and an outrageous mother. They love me because I'm outrageous, and I love them as an audience because they're the unshockable gays, which is what comedy should be about. But when I was in high school I went to prom with the gay kid, and I've always been friends with the gay kids."

Bravo Kathy!
