Sherri Shepherd dishes about "The View" meltdown...

Sherri%20Shepherd-SGG-05942.jpgI'm not sure if Barbara Walters will look too kindly at Sherri Shepherd - one of the contenders to replace Star Jones OR Rosie O'Donnell - dishing to TV Guide about what went down the day Rosie O'Donnell and Elisabeth Hasselbeck had their final face-off on 'The View." Sherri, who is guest co-hosting the show again today, was sitting next to Rosie on that day and tells the magazine:
"I could tell it was somethng that had been brewing for awhile. It was bound to happen. We could have said, 'Hey, there's a cracker on the floor,' and Rosie might have said, 'Elisabeth, yes or no?'"
Shepherd had arrived on the set May 23 aware that there had been tension brewing "but it wasn't like I sensed there was going to be any kind of explosion. It sort of came out of nowhere. I was going, 'Wait, what's happening? Where's all the banter, the fun, the lollipops and sunshine?"

rod.jpgWhile Rosie and Elisabeth were technically fighting over the Iraq war and statements Rosie had made earlier on the week which Hasselbeck likened to her calling Americans terrorists, Shepherd says "It was so beyond politics. It was so beyond the actual statements. sitting next to Rosie, I felt she was very, very hurt.
Shepherd says the audience was "horrfied."
"They're upset because it's like watching your parents fight, I just wanted to go to a commercial. I knew the audience was so uncomfortable because it was so tense at the table. That's when I said to Joy [Behar], 'Let's get up and make like we're leaving.' I felt like if there was anything we could do to lighten the mood, the audience would be so relieved."
Shepherd believes the friendship between Rosie and Eisabeth had been real: "They really had gotten along well. They had some great conversations in the hair-and-makeup room. That's why it seemed like Rosie was so upset. It's going to take some time, but anything worth having takes time."

OK, I just watched the June 6 TheV and Shari was on. Then she proceeded to talk about her time in jail and how she is a fundamentalist Christian who doesn't believe in Evolution. With her little exchange with Barbi, she just kissed her chances at a permanent seat goodbye. Ain't no way Miss Barbi is going to have two of them on the show.
