Is Laguna Beach's Boom Boom Room closed for good?

Sorry for the lack of posts all day. I'm busy doing all those tedious before-you-leave-town errands but did make time meet my pal Evan for lunch in Century City. I wanted to hear all about his recent trip to Iceland but kept getting distracted by all the hot men walking around. Sheesh, who knew that the lunch hotspot The Stand was crawling with babes?
Anyway, I want to know what the heck is going on. Mickey's in West Hollywood burns on the same day that we learn that Laguna's Boom Boom Room is set to close after Labor Day?
Are we supposed to drink at HOME?
The Orange County Register reports that iconic Laguna Beach gay bar will close its doors permanently Sept. 3 after co-owners Patrick O'Loughlin and James Marchese were unable to reach an agreement with landlord Steven Udvar Hazy.
But SAVE THE BOOM! co-chair Fred Karger called me from his vacation in Fire Island to say that not all hope is lost. He is encouraged that Udvar-Hazy has even talked to a reporter and confirmed that the Boom and his other two properties across the street are officially for sale and / or lease.
He says his group is working with some very interested investors who are "extremely anxious to pick up the lease and reopen the Boom immediately." There is also tremendous interest in the purchase of the property, according to Karger.
The Register reports that Udvar-Hazy says he offered a month-to-month lease through spring 2008 for the properties housing the bar and adjacent Coast Inn but the operators, who sold the property to him nearly two years ago, opted to close the historic establishment.
So, we shall see.
