Haas sweats out a five-set thriller...

aaaaatommyhaas1.jpgWhenever I've watched Tommy Haas practice or play in person, I always wonder how it is that he has never won one of tennis' grand slam titles. The hunky German still has a chance of winning the U.S. Open after edging out American James Blake in a brilliant fourth-round match that had me so glued I had to cancel plans to see a matinee with a friend at The Grove.
"I'm sorry, I just can't leave this match...want to do maybe an early evening flick instead?"
CLICK.
Oh well, tennis is my life when the U.S. Open is underway. I won't need friends again until after next weekend's finals. I feel badly for Blake who had three match points but still lost inb a fifth set tie-breaker. It should be noted that on each of those points, Haas served himself out of trouble, It was a high-quality affair with far more winners than errors and both players had nerves of steal on this day.
