Rosie calls numbers for "The View" a "creative use of ratings"
Let me just start by saying that I'm just so over Rosie right now. You all know that I have been a big champion of hers in the past but she's starting to bug me. First, she hints that Barbara Walters should retire and now she has posted an item on her blog taking issue with the news this week that ratings for "The View" were up by 16 percent vs. a year ago. I got the numbers out of Daily Variety, the showbiz bible but here is what Rosie had to say:
"While im all about creative use of ratings, I think we need to do something with the lovely people at the view insisting that the ratings are up without rosie when in fact they are not. Please check out perez hilton from yesterday stating their ratings are up +16% versus YAG."
Here is the real data based on live plus same day viewing:
P2+ 3,576 + 7.8%
HH 2.8 rating versus 2.66 YAG + 5.3%
W 18- 49 1.47 versus 1.6 YAG - 8.8%
W 25-54 1.77 versus 1.92 YAG - 8.5%
W 18-34 1.03 versus 1.23 YAG - 19.4%
W 50+ 2.3 versus 2.13 YAG + 8.0 %
"Note that the show is bought from an advertising perspective which is their only revenue stream on either the W 18-49 or 25-54 demo meaning they are LOSING revenue versus YAG. Also, the most valuable demo is the younger one 18-34 which is really hemmoraging. They are picking up older viewers 50+ which are of less value to advertisers. Again - they should really use the ACTUAL REAL numbers in their press statements and if they don’t, then maybe we should…..
TRUTH IN ADVERTISING BABY!!!"
Greg's thoughts: Maybe what she says has merit, maybe not. But the fact remains, it makes Rosie look kinda petty IMO. I guess I just like the show better now and I'm not 50-plus.

So if it's Rosie who brings up the ratings issue, it's petty but if someone else not connected with the show does that, it's not?
Regardless of the pettiness factor, it appears there's a lot of truth in what she writes.
Don't know about you, Greg, but I'd prefer petty truth over polite lies every time.
And the way to not ever need to be "over" anyone in the public eye is to never place them on too high a pedestal to begin with. Rosie's a great person but definitely no saint. She has lots of faults like the rest of us but despite that and all the crap tossed her way, she still manages to accomplish positive things. It is for that reason that I will always admire her.
Here's another way to look at the "ratings boost" that Barbara Walters is so desperately trying to push. Whether you feel Rosie or Whoopi pulls in better ratings, the bottom line is still this irrefutable reality: Barbara, Joy and Elisabeth themselves are definitely not a ratings draw. How about we get rid of Elisabeth and bring back Rosie?
Btw, Greg, I forgot to add, you're not 50-plus but you're also not a woman. The numbers that Rosie is referring to are the demographics for the female viewers which are the bread and butter of the show.
If you actually read the blog, you know Greg, actually go to the source, you will see that Rosie pasted the stats from some advertising site. If you actually read Ro's blog you will see that Rosie doesn't understand them but she got a giggle posting them. In other words, mr. journalist, your attribution is wrong.
And in gay years...
Just what's in Rosie's book? I haven't been trolling the blogs enough to know.
Still, if you want compelling television, Rosie brings it. Do you think she's going to get another show?
