The Thomas Roberts affair is causing debate...[Updated]

Good grief, when I became friends with Kenneth Walsh last week, I had no idea he'd become so controversial!
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaathomas.jpgBut his posting of nude photos of Thomas Roberts on his Kennethinthe212 blog a few days ago has caused quite a debate between those who are enjoying the photos and those who are upset with Kenneth for posting them in the first place.
Here is a video post from Japhy Grant of The Modern Romantic who I met at the NLGJA conference and has some interesting points to make. Take a look...

p.s. I know this has nothing to do with anything but doesn't Japhy have the prettiest blue eyes???

Meanwhile, over at Popnography.com, one of new favorite bloggers, Shana Naomi Krachmal weighs in with some thoughtful comments and people are posting some interesting comments. Check them out...

Also, over at AfterElton.com, the topic is also on people's minds...In its coverage of the Roberts photos, the site Sitting In A Tree takes the NY Post to task for refering to a gay man as "a toe tapper" which, I agree, is quite offensive as does Gawker...

Yes, interesting points. Up to a point. Let's face it, if ANY newscaster appearing naked would create news. Let's do some wishful thinking and say, Emmett Miller of KTLA, posted naked photos of himself on a site that is dedicated to cruising for straight sex. No doubt it would be news too. Look at the Vanessa Hudgens brouhaha. Ok, the real story there is squeaky clean girl needs a trim, but hey, its still all over the place today.

Let's face it. There's nothing quite as interesting to the public as seeing people naked. Straight, gay. Girl or boy.

MY big question and the one people SHOULD be asking and the one I want Kenneth to answer--what the hell is he cruisng Manhunt for when he has a bf and just lost his cat? THAT is the really interesting question.

hmmm. Quick someone find HIS profile and post asap. That should make for good a good headline. Ooh. sorry for the bad pun.

Kenneth posted these photos without thinking about Thomas' past. Thomas was abused by a priest for years when he was a teenage and there are lasting effect on sexual abuse survivors. And Thomas didn't seek help until recently.

In a way Thomas is now a victim again because of his past thanks in part to Kenneth.

Here is quotes from a study by Lisak about "The psychological impact of sexual abuse: Content analysis of interviews with male survivors"

"For some men, sexual intimacy was frightening because it re-evoked feeling related to the abuse."

"Other men went in the opposite direction, involving themselves in repeated sexual interactions, unable to protect their sexual boundaries." Thomas belong in this group

"For other men, compulsive sexuality was forced more on fantasy and masturbation"

He is an out gay man. He was hired as an out gay man. He is not an elected official.

If you have to have a tabloid news commentator what's wrong with a gay one with a nice cock and toned ass. Fuck, do you think Mary Hart insured her legs because they DIDN'T run up to some pretty fabulous coochie?

Move on, no story here.

I'm sort of at loss for words on this issue now. I feel bad for TRob but then again, he's a public figure and shouldn't post nude photos on the Internet. Then again, he has a right to privacy like the rest of us. It's a thorny issue. There's no right or wrong on this. I see both sides of the story, so to speak. (Can you tell I'm an indecisive Piscean?) :-D

"Common symptoms for sexually abused men include: guilt, anxiety, depression, interpersonal isolation, shame, low self-esteem, self-destructive behavior, post-traumatic stress reactions, poor body imagery, sleep disturbance, nightmares, anorexia or bulimia, relational and/or sexual dysfunction, and compulsive behavior like alcoholism, drug addiction, gambling, overeating, overspending, and sexual obsession or compulsion."

Should Thomas be punish for something that was caused by his abused? No. If Thomas should be punish for it than all sexual abuse victims like myself can't really use the excuse that our abuse cause our addiction to sex and should be punish by society.

And how about the responsibilities of the blogger, Kenneth Walsh, who released those photos. He released them knowing Thomas might get fire from his job and no one will hire him again. Is it ok for someone own personal benefit and fun to get someone else fire because they can. Maybe I should report to the local school district and parents that our openly gay 1st grade teacher regularly look for sex online and get him fire because I could and he should have know better. Also I don't like him. There are other people I know that is in same situation as the 1st grade teacher and they work with children too such as social workers. Should I report them and get them fire too? When will it end?

It is both their fault but only one has benefit from this and took advantage of someone else misfortune. Is it right for one person to have his life ruin while the other get off the hook and increase his blog traffic. If it is, I am ashame to be part of the gay community when they treated its members this way especially those who been sexual abuse and needed our help.

I agree with Johnny.

But ff it wasn't Kenneth, it would have been someone else.

Roberts was foolish to post these photos on a site like Manhunt when all it takes is one little trick to expose you. But that also goes for anyone who posts nudes. It doesn't matter whether you are an American Idol, a former child star, a reporter, or teacher. I don't see why people are shocked and surprised to get exposed when they put themselves in a situation like this.

But like the others pointed out, this is classic behavior of a victim of sexual abuse and sexual addiction.

And like someone else pointed out earlier, doesn't he have a partner!?

And like Chandler said, there is no story here. It's just a case of someone who exposed a sex life. And given the chance, the vultures will do that whenever possible.

Japhy's sophomoric argument -- while passionate -- has more holes than a piece of Swiss cheese.

By his logic black journalists should never write about blacks who commit crimes because then it might make the ignorant part of the population think ALL blacks are criminals. (Come on.) Thomas Roberts DOES look for sex on the Internet. Big fucking deal -- he's young and hung and gorgeous. Good for him. Everyone who has any position in the public eye knows that you can't put naked photos online and not expect them to get out -- especially if you are the one sending them out yourself!! THOMAS circulated his naked photos on the Internet to anyone he could -- they weren't stolen off his hard drive. His face WAS included in the Manhunt profile so he can't use his celebrity to lure in guys for sex but still have his "privacy" respected. Sorry, you can't have it both ways. And this part about treating sexual abuse victims with kid gloves is flat out offensive.

What's more Japhy's smoking gun is that Ken posted this to increase traffic on his blog. DUDE, isn't this why everyone posts things on their blogs? (Right Greg?) It obviously worked and you're all just drawing more attention to it. (This Japhy guy even indicted himself when he slipped by writing "Hurray for having something newsworthy to video blog about.") Does Towleroad post Cristiano Ronaldo pics because there's some greater political purpose? No, he does it cause gay guys like looking at hot men, the more naked the better. If Ken or Jared or Andy or Trent found Jake Gyllenhaal's naked pics they'd post them too.

Thomas got treated like every other celebrity he covers (Anna Nicole Smith could have only wished she had been treated this respectfully by The Insider). And the way Japhy acts like TR is the gay Walter Cronkite makes his video even more ridiculous. Roberts wouldn't even acknowledge he was gay on a national interview with Anderson Cooper.

What's more, this guy is just plain wrong about who was the first openly gay news anchor. Has he ever heard of Randy Price? This young generation sure has a lot to learn.

They are pictures, like the picture from the millions of gay men, abused or not, the advertise on the internet.
.
They are very nice pictures. What you choose to read into them has nothing to do with them.

GAY TABLOID COMMENTATORS ARE BETTER HUNG THAN STRAIGHT TABLOID COMMENTATORS.

I had no idea that Japhy was so cute, I had submitted several articles too him that he refused to read because Frontiers only ran assigned articles. It was my firt attempt and was bit put off by the response asking him to read it as a sample. I guess that's why he is no longer the arts and entertainment editor. How is that for bitter. Dinner party anyone? How do we know the pics are of Thomas Roberts other than Kenneth said so? Unless there are facial nudes it was a low blow on Kenneth's part.

I think Anderson Cooper posted them to get back at Roberts for dumping him for a chance to interview Judith Light, with all her cute gay boy connections.

Gay bloggers are now targeting gays instead of Republicans closet-cases like Larry Craig. And you wonder why our rights keep slipping away. We have no one else to blame but ourself.

John said:

Ok, Chad. Are you saying it is ok for me to report the teacher to the school officials and get him fire?

FYI, he is the first openly gay teacher ever in our school district and been targeted by local churches who don't want a "homosexual" to teach their children. Should I help these homophobes in their quest to get rid of him and others who have sex ad online?

Chad said:

That's not what I said, John. I said it doesn't matter WHO you are or what you do. If you post pictures like this, you shouldn't be shocked that they get out there.

I didn't say anything about getting anyone fired.
