A chat with Marc Cherry about the new season of "Desperate Housewives"...

It was so great to see Marc Cherry at the Les Girls benefit in Hollywood last night so I could tell him how much I have been enjoying "Desperate Housewives" this season. It is off to a brilliant start - especially the rivalry that has developed between Bree (Marcia Cross) and the new neighbor played so terrifically by Dana Delany. In case you missed it Sunday, they had a showdown over a pie recipe that was perfectly done.
"When we first came up with the idea of the character of Katherine Mayfair played by Dana Delany, we thought it would be really fun to just have an alpha female go toe-to-toe with Bree and we've been having a lot of fun with it," he said. "Next week, Katherine goes up against Eva Longoria. She starts stepping on everybody's toes."
"The season has started off really well for us, I'm very happy with my writing staff. I think after four years I finally learned how to do the job. It's going well."

Of course, I wanted to also talk about the new gay couple of Wisteria Lane, played by Tuc Watkins and Kevin Rahm who make their first appearance a few episodes down the line.
"It's a whole different dynamic we're bringing to Wisteria Lane and we're having a lot of fun with it," Marc said.
"I hope to use them as much as I can. They guys, both of them have other projects and stuff so I sometimes have to work around their schedules but we've been having just a fantastic time and they're both really, really nice guys."
I wanted to know how Marc decided on these two particular actors: "I knew of Tuc because of 'Beggars and Choosers" and I knew of Kevin Rahm because of 'Judging Amy' so that's how I became aware of them. And they both came in and auditioned and they were good, they got the parts. When I first saw them, I was going to go a different way with the casting at one point but they were both so adorable I thought, "All my gay friends are gonna want to see them move onto the street."
He is sooooo right!
