Ben Foster on the sexuality of his character in "3:10 to Yuma"

One of my favorite movies of 2007 is "3:10 to Yuma" which stars Russell Crowe and Christian Bale. But the actor who stole every scene he was in was Ben Foster, who played Crowe's loyal companion, Charlie Prince. Much has been written about whether Charlie is merely a loyal friend or if he is so in love with this man that he will do anything for him.
So last night at the Hollywood Film Festival Awards, I asked Foster himself for his thoughts about it:
Q. Is your character in love with Russell Crowe?
A. I think devotion was the root and love is definitely a beautiful form of that. How that manifested sexually? I think that's up to the audience. I think it's more about pure loyalty.
Q. I'm gonna go with you being in love with him.
A. Very good! Enjoy it.
We also talked about his working with the Oscar winning Crowe who has been prone to bad press over the years: "Russell Crowe is, in my opinion, the most misrepresented actor that we have, completely bulls***. He's one of the most generous people I've ever had the blessing of working with."
Foster's thoughts on the box office performance of "Yuma" : It's done extraordinary. The fact that it was number one in the country and the fact that it is still pulling in an audience, it's remarkable. I'm really proud of it."
Greg Hernandez has covered the entertainment industry for the Daily
News since 2001. He's considered a bit odd by some for his obsession
with box office numbers, has been known to camp out near the kitchen
at premieres for first crack at the hors d'oeurves, and Greg's never
seen a red carpet he didn't want to stroll down.
