Bob and Lee shaking things up on a terrific "Desperate Housewives"

Kudos to Marc Cherry and the writers on "Desperate Housewives" which has returned to the level of crackling comedy and superb dialogue from its glorious first year. Every episode of this fourth season has been hugely satisfying as the neighbors interact more, Bree and Orson have proven to be a wonderful comic couple (now that Orson's not a killer anymore, of course), Andrew is being given sharply witty dialogue again (of sister Danielle he says to Bree: "You've known her all these years and you still haven't figured out how that lentil of a brain works?"), and - best of all, the new additions to Wisteria Lane are absolutely delicious and inspired: Dana Delaney as the complicated Katherine Mayfair and Tuc Watkins and Kevin Rahm as the new gay couple on the street who know how to hold their own in a neighborhoood dispute.
.aahousewives.jpgTe episode begins with Katherine and several of the other ladies on the street completely aghast at an ugly sculpture fountain the men have had constructed on their front lawn.
"Of all the gay men in the world, we have to get the two without taste," says Bree (Marcia Cross) who has snappy, funny lines all episode long.

After Bree complains about the gay couple's taste, Mrs. McClusky suggests Bree go talk to them since "you got a kid who came flying out of the closet and a husband who's looking for the door knob." THAT cracked me up.
When everyone looks shocked by the remark, McClusky cracks: "What? Yoiu've all seen him."
Katherine and Lynette both run for head of the newly revived neighborhood association and the sequence of their door-to-door campaigning is a hoot! Katherine wins and is ready to begin a reign of terror starting with forcing Bob and Lee to get rid of the fountain. But the couple surprises them when they make clear that they are aware why she and her husband had to leave Chicago and that the ugly fountain stays.
.aatucxx.jpgWatkins and Rahm are perfect casting choices with Rahm getting a lot of the funnier lines and Watkins getting a few in of his own. To the homophobic and dowdy Ida at the homeowners meeting, he whipsers; "If you ever want to talk fashion, we're here for you."
And, of course, it's nice to see them finally get Watkins out of his business suit and into some snug-fitting polo shirts to show off his terrific physique. Hey, if he's got it, let us see it!
