Lynne Cheney on gays: "People are just people..."

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaacheney.jpg
Lynne Cheney has a new book out and in a CBS interview promoting it, she talked about the early dating experiences of her and Dick. Since I don't want to lose my breakfast, I'll just skip over most of that and get right down to what the mother of Mary Cheney had to say about gay people.
But at one point in the interview, which aired Sunday morning, she said Cheney "went a little insane" and broke up with her deciding he needed to date a cheerleader.
A little insane?
She writes in the book that in the 50s, when she and Dick were in high school, that times "were hard on ...kids who were gay."
In the interview with Rita Braver, she says, "...I've evolved in my way of thinking, but I think the whole society has evolved. You know, my mother had a rule which was, 'People are just people.'...That's a rule that stands one in good stead for life, whatever difference we might be talking about, whether it's race or gender or sexual orientation."
Hmmmmm. Maybe she should've told that to Karl Rove, her husband and W before they used gay marriage as a wedge issue to help get elected.
Braver then asks if it wasn't a stretch for Mrs. Cheney to accept who her daughter is - a lesbian with a partner and a baby.
Cheney: "Well, it certainly doesn't seem so now."
