Out In Hollywood Interview: Charlie David is a triple threat...
Charlie David was last to arrive to the "Dante's Cove" premiere earlier this week in L.A. but he was not pulling a star turn. This well-spoken, thoughtful actor with leading man looks is far too modest for that kind of thing and each time I see him, I am more and more impressed at his work ethic and focus. He is in post-production right now on "Mulligans," a movie he wrote, produced and stars in along with Thea Gill and others. It is in post-production now with the plan of entering it into film festivals in the spring. Charlie also has roles in two movies that screened at Outfest this summer: "A Four Letter Word" and "Kiss the Bride" to be released next year.
With the third season premiere of "Dante's" tonight on here! TV, expect for Charlie's character of Toby to be just as prominent as he has been in previous seasons, and just as gorgeous. Here is some of our conversation:
Greg: How did things on "Mulligans" go?
Charlie: "The shooting went off really without a hitch. Thea is amazing. There are scenes that she does that make me weep - they are literally so good. She plays the mother of my best friend. It's her husband that I end up having an affair with."
Greg: You little tart. (both laugh) What was it like to juggle acting in a film that you've written and are also producing?
Charlie: It was great overall. There were challenges as we got the script to the production draft of it. It's definitely a challenge producing a film - it was my first feature to produce. From raising the funds to pulling all the pieces together, I found out that I definitely have an affinity for it, I love to do it so I'll be walking down that path again.
Greg: I really liked you in "A Four Letter Word" because it was a character very different from Toby. You were this big liar.
Charlie: I was a pathologically lying prostitute. We shot that in Manhattan. It was so fun to play not the good guy next door, to play a little bit more of the antagonist.

Greg: OK, "Dante's Cove." Here it is the third season and here we are at this event surrounded by all this hoopla.
Charlie: "It's great to see people excited about the show, our fan base is growing and people are supportive of it. For a gay and lesbian show to be going into its third season on a LGBT channel, it's pretty exciting and nice to be a part of."
Greg: Do you like the direction the show is going?
Charlie: I don't know what's happening! I haven't seen any of this season. I remember what we shot but how they end up cutting it together is quite a different thing (laughs) so I'm excited to see it as well.
