"Queer as Folk" cast still close...

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagill.jpgIt was a mini "Queer As Folk" reunion the other night at the Outfest Legacy Awards with Peter Page (Emmett) there along with former co-stars Thea Gill (Lindsay) and Scott Lowell (Ted). I posted my chat with Peter a few days ago but haven't shared my conversations with Thea and Scott....until now!
Try to stay calm.
The lovely Thea had just seen the interview from The Advocate Party that I posted a few weeks ago of my talk with her and co-star Tracy Scoggins as they gear up for the third season premiere of "Dante's Cove" on Oct. 17 on here! TV. Fortunately, Thea liked the piece and was grateful for it.
She and Scott told me that just last weekend, several "Queer" castmates got together at Lowell's house for a night of poker including Gale Harold, Paige, Robert Gant. Michelle Clooney, and Sharon Gless.
"We had a crazy drunken poker game at my house Saturday night," Scott said. "We get together quite often."
Confesses Gill: "I still don't really know how to play poker, but I'm slowly learning. I mostly just watched and danced while the rest of them played (laughs)."
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaated.jpgLowell joined Gill and Paige at the DGA in support of Outfest and of Showtime's Robert Greenblatt who was being honored.
"The network was out ahead of so many people for so long on gay and lesbian issues and as soon as they called and said they were going to do this, I said I have to be there because I'm really, really proud of the network and so proud of being part of its history," he says.
It was Lowell's character on "Queer"who in the first few episodes overdoses and is left for dead and later goes from straight-laced accountant to porn site operator to meth addict.
"I was really fortunate, I really got to go through the most," Scott says. "And the show continues throughout the world and it's like every week there's a new country that all of a sudden we start getting letters from. The show is very, very big in Germany now. It's amazing to me that we haven't shot any for two years and yet it's still new to some people out there in the world and they still are so attached to it. It's one of the greatest gifts I've ever gotten."
Despite his character's dramatic storylines - or maybe because of them - getting other acting gigs hasn't been so easy after five seasons as Ted.
"I'm doing mostly writing now - that's taking up most of my energy right now - and am out panhandling for work - trying to find someone who will hire me. It's not easy," Scott admits. "It's been an odd blend of people who know the show really well and kin da can't separate the character from me so it takes some time to kind of reinvent yourself that way. Oddly enough, all I used to do was comedy before "Queer as Folk" and now they don't think I can do any comedy anymore because of "Queer as Folk." So it's not even a gay-straight thing, it's been more of a comedy-drama thing. Because we shot the show out of town, we were away for five years so it's a lot of re-introduction that takes place. It's been an interesting process."
