Saul's denial runs deep on "Brothers & Sisters"

I loved the three girls (Sally Field, Rachel Griffin and Calista Flockhart) going off for a spa weekend together because the comedy from that situation was much-needed after the heaviness of the episodes revolving around Justin's recovery and the marital problems of Tommy and Sara.
But the scenes that I was most interested involved uncle Saul (Ron Rifkin) and his emerging sexuality.
Milo has invited him to a party at his home where all the guests are, you guessed it, gay men! And Scotty (Luke MacFarlane) is one of the waiters! We get to see just how un comfortable Saul is with himself and get a glimpse into how difficult a journey this has been and still will be for him.

Scotty tells Kevin he saw Saul there: "It was a big, gay cocktail party - you never told me your uncle's gay...The way he and this Miolo guy were looking at each other...Kevin, it's time to take off the Prada shades."
Kevin goes to Saul and asks him, point blank, "Are you gay?" Saul does not confirm it. Kevin assumes he is and his hurt over his own coming out starts to come through and he says his uncle could have supported him when his father just made him feel lucky that he was allowed to retain the love of his family.
This is the first inkling we get that the late Walker patriarch may not have been so happy about having a gay son. I hope we learn more down the road.
Later, Kevin and Saul have a heart-to-heart, more civil and Kevin begins to say to hois uncle: "I'm sure you think I had things a lot easier...but you don't have to hide anything."
Saul's response: "I'm not gay. I'm not gay."
We've got a long ways to go...

This is one of the best B & S plot developments EVER. When Milo showed up and we learned Saul had a gay past I knew this was going to lead to a scene between him and Kevin, but I never anticipated it was going to go like this. Rhys is phenomenal in conveying Kevin's surprise and disappointment, and Rivkin hits Saul's mendacity right out of the ballpark. This is especially fascinating in that Saul has been such a rock for the family -- such a mainstay of seeming reason and sanity. But underneath this surface,
MAN does he ever have issues!
And having Scotty give Kevin the news was a stroke of genius.
