Disney flick leaves grumpy Greg completely "Enchanted"

.aaaaaaaaaenchantedd.jpg Damn Disney for making me believe in fairy tales again!

I arrived at the screening of "Enchanted" last night irritated by traffic - a state of mind that was not made any better by the lack of free popcorn or VIP seating. Then there was the organ player. I'm sure he's a nice man and he plays well. But he plays loud and by the fourth number, I wanted to leap from the balcony of the El Capitan Theatre and break every one of his fingers - one at a time. The 7 p.m. movie finally began at around 7:25 p.m. and i settled in, ready to be further annoyed.

It did not happen.

Instead, my damned bad mood has disappeared within the first few minutes of this gem of a movie that is gonna be a monster hit for Disney and make all kinds of people laugh and sing and be gay (well, you know what I mean). This fairy tale may be tongue-in-cheek, but it has such tremendous positive energy and wonderful performances from a perfect cast led by an amazing Amy Adams, a very funny James Marsden, and a perfectly-cast Patrick Dempsey. And let's not forget Susan Sarandon who is a hoot! All the actors are seen in live action but they also voice the animated versions of themselves in a movie that very cleverly mixes both genres.

Adams is would-be princess Giselle who has been banished from fairy tale land by the wicked Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon) and ends up in Times Square looking more than a little lost and out of place. She tries to make do as she waits for her cartoon prince (James Marsden) to rescue her. Along the way she meets Dempsey who thinks she's nuts - at least at first.

There are so many clever touches, some laugh out loud stuff (watch for anything involving a chipmunk) and all the actors are at their best. Adams is a revelation and does her own singing. Marsden, as he did with "Hairspray," shows that his pretty face has obscured the fact that he is a wonderful comic actor and song and dance man.

Dempsey is dazzling and how great to see him on the big screen far away from the hospital on "Grey's Anatomy." He plays a divorced divorce laywer who doesn't believe in love anymore and the best part about the scenes with his clients is that one of them is played the fab Tonya Pinkens, the Tony winner who most recently wowed us in "Caroline, or Change."

The movie is greatly enhanced by the music with songs written by Oscar winners Alan Menken ("The Little Mermaid,""Beauty and the Beast,""Aladdin") and Stephen Schwartz ("Pocahontas,""The Prince of Egypt") and the production numbers can't be beat.

I loved, loved, loved this film.
