So, why is Trent Lott REALLY resigning?
Kinda strange that the former majority leader of the U.S. Senate is stepping down from office FIVE years early. It always raises a red flag and usually seems to mean some kind of major scandal is in the offing.
Is Lott retiring to spend more time with the family (yeah, sure) or to take a lucrative job in the private sector (maybe) or is there any truth to the reports all over the blogosphere that he may have been involved with a male escort named Benjamin Nichols?
We will have to see. Lott has never been a friend to the gay community so if there is anything to this, it's just another example of how hypocritical and self-loathing some members of the GOP are. For the record, here is one of the soon-to-be-ex-senator's quotes on homosexuality: "It is [a sin]....You should try to show them a way to deal with that problem, just like alcohol...or sex addiction...or kleptomaniacs."
