Brothers & Sisters recap: Are Kevin and Scotty still "in the process of becoming a we?"

It was far from a typical "Brothers & Sisters" episode what with Robert (Rob Lowe) and Kitty (Calista Flockhart) getting married amid political turmoil for the senator. Then there's the whole Lena-Justin-Tommy love triangle and Holly (Patricia Wettig) getting a visit from a mysterious stranger from her past played by the show's director, Ken Olin, who happens to be Wettig's real-life hubby. I'm thinking he might be Rebecca's real father? Could be. Just a feeling.

OK, so let's get to the gay stuff.

Holly had a talk with Saul (Ron Rifkin) who I've already lost patience with. I don't care if he is/was/will be gay. It's all playing out in kind of an annoying way - at least to me. And yet, I know there are a lot of screwed up gay people out there who don't come to terms with it until they are practically ready for social security. Holly seems to sense Saul's gayness. At the reception, she said to him: "When we were together, I knew you weren't that interested in me...you can't help who you love Saul."

And finally, Scotty and Kevin.

Kevin (Matthew Rhys) really is acting like a jackass right now, wanting Scotty (Luke MacFarlane) back and yet going on and on about Jason. Kevin, at the wedding of Jason's brother, got the cold shoulder from the MacAllister family and stern words from Robert: My brother's halfway around the world...he's all alone and you dump him?"

Later, Kevin grouses to Scotty, of all people: "I'm done justifying this break-up." Scotty, his "date" to wedding, has had it: "Done. Stop. I'm not here as a friend willing to let you go on and on about your ex-boyfriend." Scotty takes a walk and a forelorn Kevin says to his brothers: "Well, I've chased another man away."

Later, at home, they have a heart-to-heart and Kevin states the obvious: "I was the worst date tonight."
Scotty: "You're not over him Kev, at least that's what it feels like."
Kevin stumbles through saying he's mostly over him and adds: "Scotty, I want to be with you."
Scotty: "Me too. But sometimes, just because you want something doesn't mean it's possible."

Uh oh. We know Eric Winter is returning as Jason so what does this all mean? Does Jason fight to win Kevin back?: Will Scotty graciously step aside? Who does Kevin really love?" I have no clue since there were no previews of the next episode.

Stay tuned.

Great recap! I think Ken Olin will turn out to be Rebecca's real father. (Which would open the door for Rebecca and Justin to explore their attraction.) The future plot lines are so obvious in this show. (Lena-Tommy, for example.) As much as I want to see Scotty and Kevin together, they don't seem compatible. It didn't work out the first time and you know how the saying goes... Also, Scott seems more reserved this season. Butch, even.
