Diana Ross adds glamour to the Kennedy Center Honors...

.aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarossss.jpgWhen I ran into Tracee Ellis Ross last month at an event, I brought up her mom being selected as one of the 2007 Kennedy Center Honorees. Tracee lit up and said: "Is that great or what? I will be there with bells on."

Diana Ross got the royal treatment over the weekend in Washington D.C along with Brian Wilson, Martin Scorsese, Steve Martin and pianist Leon Fleisher. There was a White House reception for the honorees then a gala program at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts where the group was given the big fuss they so deserve.

.aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaakennedy.jpgAretha Franklin, a 1994 Kennedy Center Honors recipient, said that as a teenager attending a variety show at Harlem's Apollo Theater, she was intrigued by the lead singer of a group called the Supremes.
"There was something about the girl singer in the middle," she said. "Needless to say, that young lady was Diana Ross."
During the musical tribute that followed Aretha's remarks, Ciara sang ‘‘I’m Coming Out,’’ Yolanda Adams sang ‘‘Reach Out and Touch (Somebody’s Hand)’’ and Vanessa Williams sang ‘‘Touch Me in the Morning.’’

.aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaross1.jpgRecipients are cited for their excellence in the performing arts — dance, music, theater, opera, motion pictures or television — and selected by the center’s board of trustees. The two-hour event will air Dec. 26 on CBS.

Meanwhile, I just found this clip of Diana singing "It's My Turn" earlier this year when sahe was featured on "Inside the Actors Studio." She's only made five movies, but she is a terrific actress - Oscar nominated for "Lady Sings the Blues" and Golden Globe nominated for "Out of Darkness."

And one more: this is The Ultimate Supreme Fan Tribute with the Diana hit "Remember Me" used effectively as a background. So many photos and rare footage, including a snippet the disastrous Supremes reunion in 1983:
