Sex and the City party at Here Lounge provides unexpected VIP treatment...

My friend Michelle used to talk about what it takes for a party to achieve legendary status. I don't remember all of her critieria but it included everyone having such a good time that it would be talked about for some time to come. I think the "Sex and the City" party at Here Lounge in West Hollywood on Saturday night definitely achieve legendary status in a lot of people's minds.

Sure, there were some celebrities there like Lance Bass (far cuter in person than in photos, everyone seemed to agree), JP Calderon of "Survivor" and "Janice Dickerson Modeling Agency," Ross Mathews (the intern from "The Tonight Show") and Jeff, the guy from "Flipping Out." But the real stars were everyone who had the good sense to show up to this incredible party.

I had met my friends Danny and Eddie at The Abbey beforehand for dinner and they were dubious about heading next door right at 8 p.m. since that was the official start time. I kept saying, "It's free drinks! It's free drinks!" So walked over about 8:05 and the line was already around the block. Apparently the whole town knew about the free Cosmos, I didn't have any special VIP or press access so we just had to wait in line but I was tempted to use my usual :"I'm Samantha Jones" line which never gets me anywhere but someday a doorman will get the joke and let me on in.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,jimgreg.jpgThe place was instantly packed. It was such a great energy and I felt like everyone I've ever known was there! I was gabbing with Ross Mathews and I got a text from my friend Jim Key (pictured with me on the right) saying he was at the other side of the bar. The place was such a sea of people that when we went to look for Jim, we could not find him. This place is not that big, but it was that crowded!

Just gabbed with everyone, caught up with old friends, made new friends, and actually gave my free Cosmo away. Much too strong and I was having too much fun to drink believe it or not. But about 11 p.m., Lance Bass left the VIP area near where we were standing and Daniel said to me, "I want to sit down." So I followed him to the VIP area and sat down with him and a few other guys in our group. Next thing I know, he's serving drinks from the free booze there and no one is questioning what the heck we are doing there. Better to apologize than to ask permission I always say.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,crowd.jpgHere's the really funny part of the whole VIP thing though: My friend Michael had been at a dinner party and was going to join us later. He called from the Pacific Design Center and said he was coming in. I said, "We're in the VIP area." So Michael gets to the club, the line is around the block, so he walks right up to the security dude and announces, in all innocence: "I'm here to meet Greg Hernandez in the VIP area." Security dude asks some other dude who checks with a guy with a clipboard and headset and Michael gets waved in!

Gee, maybe I'm going to be able to start using my real name instead of saying I'm Samantha Jones when trying to cut the line!

Many thanks to photographer Brian Putnam for the photos. Brian never misses a good party!
