John McCain is against gay adoption too...

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,mccain.jpgWhy do Republican presidential candidates insist that gay people be second class citizens? John McCain has just motivated me to put a Barack Obama sign in my yard with his latest comment to the New York Times regarding gay adoption: "I think that we've proven that both parents are important in the success of a family so, no, I don't believe in gay adoption."

Both parents? If a gay couple adopts a kid, the kid has BOTH parents. And why make these kinds of sweeping statements? We know there are a lot of screwed up kids out there who have a mother and father and terrific kids of a single parent or of a grandparent. It's about the love the kid gets, the attention, the opportunities etc.

I know some gay Republicans, some of them are cool people who I like. But how can any self-respecting gay person vote for this guy?

So what about gay birth-parents?
Is McCain also going to deny parental rights to Mary Cheney and thousands of other gay birth-parents, too?
And what about kids brought up by single parents?
I was raised by a single mom --- is he going to have some right wing army come and take kids away from gay birth-parents and children of single-parent homes, too?

It's amazing that ANYone would vote for him, much less a gay Republican with any sense of self-worth.

Because as wrong as McCain is on this and other gay-related issues, he's far better than Obama on the ones that must take priority at the moment. If the Democrats would ever get smart and nominate someone of REAL substance who not only has character and an impressive backround, but also is strong on defense and energy independence, they would clean the GOP's clock. Given the unsavory shenanigans of the Religious Right I would dearly love to see this, but not at the expense of serious issues that place the nation as a whole in jeopardy. Obama is not presidential material nor someone of any substance to be Commander-in-Chief. Find yourselves another FDR, Truman, Kennedy, Scoop Jackson, etc. to put on the top spot of the ticket and you'll peel away a LOT of votes from the GOP - including mine.
