Barbra Streisand to be one of 2008 Kennedy Center honorees...
Talk about well deserved: Barbra Streisand will receive one of the most prestigious awards a performer can receive
Kennedy Center Chairman Stephen Schwarzman called Streisand's career "one of the most thrilling spectacles of our culture."
The 66-year-old has worked in music, theater and film, selling more albums than any other female artist. She said in a statement that she was "humbled and thrilled" to join the recipients of the 31st annual Kennedy Center Honors.
Last year Diana Ross was honored. If they do Cher and Bette Midler in the next few years, all four of my favorite divas from my teenaged years will have been recognized for their extraordinary careers.
Besides Streisand, also being honored are actor Morgan Freeman and country singer George Jones, choreographer Twyla Tharp and musicians Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey of The Who.

Greg: This is great news. As a devoted Barbra fan for many years it is good to see that you have featured Barbra many times and have not used her to make crude rude jokes about her outspoken politics. So many comments on other blogs are full of hate and anger when it comes to Barbra. Most posters feel that she has absolutely no right to voice her political opinions and I say that we all have a right to express any opinion we wish. In fact aren't all those hateful critics of BJS actually expressing THEIR opinions. Last time I checked this was a free country.
If you think about it Barbra has always supported the less fortunate element of society. She is a democrat who believes in liberty and justice for ALL. No she is not perfect but her talent is huge and her heart is in the right place.
