A victory for gay marriage in Connecticut...
I'm not sure how this will affect California's Proposition 8, but I hope it will help to defeat it: In a 4-3 decision, the Connecticut Supreme Court ruled Friday that the state's ban on permitting marriage rights for same-sex couples was discriminatory and that civil unions did not create protections equal to those available to heterosexual married couples.
Hooray!
Connecticut will become the third state in the U.S. where same-sex couples will likely be allowed to marry by the end of the year. The others are California and Massachusetts.
Unlike in California, where an anti-gay marriage is on the November ballot that would nullify that state's recent supreme court ruling, Connecticut voters would have to change the state's constitution in order to even allow direct initiatives of any kind.
