Michael Douglas will be the next star to be presented with the Life Achievement Award by the American Film Institute. Wow. His father, Kirk Douglas, received the AFI tribute back in 1991.

The award will be presented in Los Angeles on June 11. Michael said in a statement: "I am honored and overwhelmed to be included in such a prestigious group of filmmakers. I am particularly moved to be following my father 18 years later."

Michael, alomg with Kent McCord, was one of my early crushes. He was on "The Streets of San Fransisco" as Karl Malden's partner Steve Keller. He was so hot. Then he left the show after five seasons to produce his first movie and it was a doozy: "One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest" for which he won an Oscar for best picture.

My favorite Michael Douglas movies are many starting with "Romancing the Stone" opposite Kathleen Turner. Also loved his Oscar-winning role in "Wall Street," as the cheating hubby stalked by Glenn Close in "Fatal Attraction," the title role in "An American President," and the writing professor in "Wonder Boys."

He also acted opposite his dad - at last - in the movie "It Runs in the Family" which also starred Michael's son, Cameron Douglas, and mother Diana Douglas.

And finally, it was so cool when he guested on "Will & Grace" as a gay cop who's got the hots for Will and tricks him into helping with a bogus undercover investigation. Just a scream and, I believe, the only time Michael ever played gay.
