New book tells of how Doug Savant was a closeted heterosexual during "Melrose Place" days...

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,savant16.jpgDoug Savant is such a raging hetersexual on ABC's "Desperate Housewives" that it's hard to believe there was a time when people wondered about the actor's sexuality. The reason was because Doug spent six seasons on "Melrose Place" playing the gay character of Matt. During the early part of the show's run, he didn't want viewers to know anything about his personal life.

I have an advance copy of publicist Howard Bragman's upcoming book, "Where's My Fifteen Minutes?" and in it, he shares this story: "As Doug's publicist, people were always asking about his personal sexual orientation. He is in fact heterosexual, married, and has numerous children. But Doug thought it would be insulting to the gay community if he went out of his way to say he was straight, so we kept his embarrassing heterosexuality in the closet for a long time."
