Ellen is "saddened beyond belief" over Prop. 8 passage

Ellen DeGeneres (pictured with wife Portia de Rossi) says she is "saddened beyond belief" by the passage of Prop. 8. She has released a statement to the Associated Press that she: "like millions of Americans, felt like we had taken a giant step toward equality" by electing Barack Obama as president. But with the passage of Proposition 8, "we took a giant step away."

Ellen says she will "continue to speak out for equality for all of us."
