Just got this press release via Karen Ocamb: After consultation with legal counsel, Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Dean Logan is suspending the issuance of marriage licenses and civil marriage ceremonies for same-sex couples based on the Secretary of States Semi-Official canvass results from Election Night and the California State Constitutional provision that states(a) proposed amendment or revision shall be submitted to the electors and if approved by a majority of votes thereon takes effect the day after the election.

If directed to amend this action or take additional action by order of a court or a state regulatory agency, the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk will act accordingly.

Statewide Semi-Official Election Night results as reported by the Secretary of State are as follows:

08 - Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry
YES: 5,358,796 52.5%
NO: 4,866,831 47.5%

I didn't think civil rights could be taken away, I am sure the red necks in Alabama would love to revisit some civil rights laws they would care to change but the constitution protects those rights. We shall see.
