Friends in cold places...

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,rhys.jpgI'm in sunny Los Angeles and I don't think I'm going to be getting over that amazing inaugural anytime soon. So deeply satisfying and inspiring. Just felt so good, didn't it? Could not stop watching. We live in a great country, we just need great leaders!

Some of my closest friends made the trip from SoCal to Washington DC for the inaugural festivities. The cute as a button kid pictured left is my godson, an ebullient 7-year-old named Rhys, younger son of Danny Sullivan and Lorna Harris. I stayed part of last weekend at the Sullivan-Harris home in OC until they left me Sunday morning to catch a plane to DC! They watched the swearing in from the mall and Danny had scored an invite to the Google ball where Danny reported to me that Ben Affleck was in attendance and Casey Affleck too. He had texted me from the party earlier that they had just run into our friend Ted Johnson who is working like a mad man writing stories for Daily Variety and posts for his Wilshire and Washington blog.

I am sitting here in section 12, orange ticket. It would be an understatement to say that the atmosphere is jubulliant.

As the Marine band play Sousa and other marches, the crowd here just below the podium is a sea of cameras and camcorders, with a premium on shots of the Capitol and the National Mall, filled with people early this morning.

I am sitting here with Ron Howard and his wife Cheryl, and there are a smattering of Hollywood figures nearby. "There is no such thing as a celebrity today," said Jamie Foxx, before crowds formed around him to capture his photo. Also spotted: Tom Hanks, Halle Berry and Jon Bon Jovi.

As majestic the surroundings are, especially when the band played "Amazing Grace," the scene in the Metro getting to the Mall was likeno other day. Packed as it was, passengers cheered and hollared as they approached the Capitol South stop. When they got off, a woman on a megaphone urged them to move forward to the exit, cracking jokes in the process. "This is the most attention I have ever had," she said, beaming.
