Weekend Box Office: "Milk" stays strong...
Hollywood A-lister Jennifer Aniston ("Marley & Me"), Adam Sandler ("Bedtime Stories"), Brad Pitt ("The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"), Tom Cruise ("Valkyrie"), Will Smith ("Seven Pounds") and Jim Carrey ("Yes Man") are among those with top 10 movies over the holiday season - all with films in wide release playing in thousands of theaters.
Then there is the number 16 film for the weekend, "Milk," starring Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, James Franco, Emile Hirsch and others. Still playing in just 309 locations in its sixth week of release, the Gus Van Sant-directed drama about the life of Harvey Milk grossed an estimated $1.9 million, a 5.5 percent increase from the weekend before.
The per-theater average of $6,019 is outstanding as the film ups its overall gross-to-date to $17.1 million.

I still believe that it will top over 30 mil in domestic, but may actually go a bit higher to 35 to 40. It will depend on Oscar nominations. if it gets Best Pic nomination it will send it into higher gear. Regardless, I hope Hollywood is paying attention so that this can mean more gay themed films.
Why was Milk never released in 2 or 3 thousand cinemas when it was first released? I'm positive it would easily have made by now 100 million in wider release. With all the excellent reviews it has earned, it is beyond mine (and many of my friends) understanding that it was not released to a much larger audience, like I say, on several thousand screens in North America. What gives? Gary
Wow, I cannot believe this movie is doing so well for so little exposure. There are many mixed reviews on this movie. some that say well done, then other reviews that beg to differ, and quite dramatically. Interesting to say the least.
