Will the King of Queens rule at the box office?

About a month or so ago, I went from being a columnist/blogger at the Daily News to a blogger/columnist/feature writer. This has led to more varied assignments ranging from theater pieces to movie junkets. I kinda got a kick outa seeing my cover piece on the front of our LA Life section today on Kevin James and his new movie "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" opening today.
Here's the first part of it:
Kevin James' first two movies were big hits. So why is he so nervous about today's opening of his new comedy, "Paul Blart: Mall Cop"?
"This movie is the first movie that I've done where it's just me out there by myself," explains the former "King of Queens" star who was previously in "Hitch" and "I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry" with Will Smith and Adam Sandler, respectively.
"With Sandler and Smith, I was literally just relaxing and thinking, `All right, let's just watch this box office go and have a fun time with it,"' he says.
James not only stars as the title character, but he co-wrote the script and is one of the film's producers.
"It's an exciting time. It's just stressful, too," he admits. "There's everything on the line here. ... I don't have Will Smith or Adam Sandler. I'm tired of carrying those guys!"
In "Cop," James plays a suburban single dad named Paul Blart who lives with his mother and young daughter in New Jersey and works as a security officer at a local mall. He's been on the job for a decade and takes it all very seriously.
Explains James: "You have two types of mall cops that I've noticed: You have guys that don't take the job serious at all and are just there to read a book and just kill time. And there are the guys that are like Barney Fife almost - taking their job very seriously. ... And that's what Paul Blart is."
