For anyone who snickered at Aretha Franklin's one-of-a-kind hat worn by the Queen of Soul when she sang at the inauguration, get this:The Smithsonian wants to display the now-iconic hat along with First Lady Michelle Obama's now-famous Jason Wu gown.

Aretha, a fashion independent if there ever was one, isn't so sure she wants to part with her Luke Song-designed hat. "I am considering it. It would be hard to part with my chapeau since it was such a crowning moment in history," she says. "I would like to smile every time I look back at it and remember what a great moment it was in American and African-American history. Ten cheers for President Obama."

C'mon Aretha, give the Smithsonian the hat and go visit it there!
