Today's Oscar Moment: Hattie McDaniel wins for "Gone With the Wind"

| | Comments (1) |

At yesterday's Oscar Nominees Luncheon, a short film of good speeches from the past was shown to encourage this year's winners to say something meaningful and not just read off some stupid list, I think they should have just shown this speech by Hattie McDaniel who won for best supporting actress for the 1939 classic "Gone With the Wind."

Total class act, totally heartfelt.

That speech was written for her. Though she seemed moved her table was next to the kitchen door, in the back. The statement about " being a credit to her race" is insulting today, but then it showed her to be a "Good Negro".
