It's rained all day here in SoCal and it;s Monday. What can I say, "Rainy Days and Mondays" always get me down. Here are The Carpenters singing one of their biggest hits...
This is one of the TV theme sings that is fun to sing along to with Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor. "You are my wiiiife...Goodbye city life!"
I was home for summer break when Live Aid was on and me and my siblings just watched it for hours and hours and hours. Seems like yesterday. One of the absolute highlights - and I'll never forget it - was when Tina Turner walked onstage and joined Mick Jagger for a coupla tunes.
Sensational!
If you have never watched "Breakfast at Tiffany's," then run, don't walk, to your nearest video store and rent it. I've seen it more times than I'm going to ever admit publicly and my favorite moment (aside from the shirtless scenes of a young and beautiful George Peppard) is when Audrey Hepburn's Holly Golightly sits in her windowsill with her guitar singing a lovely version of "Moon River." The studio wanted to cut the song from the movie but Hepburn, one of the biggest stars in the world at that time, fought tooth and nail for it to remain.
Enjoy...
I heard Tom Jones say in an interview with John Rabe on KPPC radio not long ago that this was his most challenging song because he has to switch gears so quickly. I love it!
Sorry for the lack of posts. Technical problems trying to post from home. Gotta find out what's going on! Anyway, I'm in the newsroom now and have many, many items for you so kieep checking back.
I want to first of all, wish a very happy birthday the the great Joan Baez who an all-time fave and has the voice of an angel.
Since I'm interviewing Neil Sedeka this afternoon, did some research on Youtube of his old hits. The best-known, obviously is this one: "Breaking Up is Hard to Do." Here he is singing it on a TV show in 1966.
Oh, this takes ya back. Lionel Richie before Nicole, Michael Jackson when he was still, well, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen at his hottest, Paul Simon with most of his hair, a pre-facelifted Kenny Rogers, and an oh-so-young Cyndi Lauper. This is the video for "We Are the World" with proceeds going to USA for Africa. Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Huey Lewis, Kenny Loggins, Bob Dylan, Dionne Warwick, Ray Charles Steve Perry, Darryl Hall and John Oates, James Ingram, Al Jareau, and Kim Carnes also participated. In fact, there were so many stars there to record the song that Bette Midler, in her post-"The Rose" career lull, was not even given a solo part. Imagine that, the Divine one relegated to background vocals with Latoya Jackson!
