Cal State Northridge basketball player Dallas Rutherford pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor grand theft Friday at San Fernando Superior Court after allegedly stealing merchandise the Best Buy in Porter Ranch.
Rutherford was one of four defendants charged with grand theft after he, CSUN star Deon Tresvant and two others allegedly stole $6,600 worth of merchandise on New Year's Day.
Rutherford, the son of Shepherd of the Hills pastor Dudley Rutherford, was sentenced to three years probation and ordered to complete 200 hours of Caltrans service. He also must maintain a C-minus average at CSUN.
Rutherford has returned $1,300 worth of merchandise - two IPODs, two XBOX game systems and video games - to Best Buy.
Tresvant, Jeffrey Braswell (the son of CSUN coach Bobby Braswell) and actor Phannuel Gbewonyo are scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 26.
