One sign to rule them all
Yes, that thing you thought you saw this morning? That's 400 square feet of Robin Salzer rippling in the wind alongside the eastbound 210.
The 50-foot-by-8-foot banner unfurled last week above the International Union of Operating Engineers' building, who through their endorsement have made Robin, in a literal sense, the most visible among his competitors to represent District 1 on the City Council.
"I wanted it to be bigger," Robin deadpans. "But they couldn't put the two buildings together."
Pasadena political consultant Martin Truitt said the rule of thumb for visibility is one-inch of type for every 25 feet of distance. With the "R" in Robin 3.5 feet high, Truitt calculates the sign should maintain its visual "pop" more than over 1,000 feet away.
Robin said the union's support follows his UAW membership three decades ago in Milwaukee -- Once a brother, always a brother.
It probably also helped that Robin has the support of Councilman Chris Holden, who has long enjoyed the IUOE Local 12's support.
