We get letters
But not usually a candidate's kvetch about endorsement decisions made by our editorial board, in this case specifically, the board's decision to endorse Bill Bogaard.
A process with which I'm happily uninvolved.
Most candidates shrug-and-move-on, but not Aaron Proctor, who gets partial "maverick" cred for writing to tell the editorial board they were wrong! (As a policy, the newspaper does not run letters from candidates.)
To Aaron's further credit, he beat me out by posting its entirety in the comments to the post below.
"I’m very happy to hear that you’re glad I’m on the ballot but your endorsement of Bogaard makes this sound like some Student Body race at Podunk Senior High School."
"It’s easy to dismiss my campaign as a joke and it’s even easier to dismiss me for being young or whatever else you want to point out about me. The fact of the matter is: I truly care about Pasadena and I truly love this City and I truly stand by my convictions on things that need to be changed."
Fair enough. Being no stranger to the the night club scene, I'm the last person to take Aaron to task for smearing on a little eyeliner. But it becomes a stretch then to describe anyone else as "eccentric."
