So I was up past midnight waiting for the Weekly's online version to hit the Web, which didn't happen until about 10 a.m. this morning.

Andre Coleman is at the helm of the main column, this time writing about the lynching flier:

The tragic fact is, between 1882 and 1968, 5,000 African Americans were horsewhipped, drowned, hanged and stoned for simple things like drinking from the wrong water fountain or attempting to vote. Undoubtedly, thousands more lynchings went unrecorded. In the South, many African-American family members simply disappeared, never to be heard from again, like my great uncle Albert who went to the store to buy a loaf of bread and never came back.
With that said, I believe it's about damn time all of us stop trivializing racism and exploiting it for our own interests and get honest about ourselves and our community.

My other observation after refreshing the Weekly's site several times last night? I never want to see that picture of phyical trainer Joey Dowdy again. And Carl? I'm all for self-improvement, but maybe we could just incorporate your current weigh-in into "The Count:"

2.3 pounds were reportedly gained after The Carl's Bodytude suffered a lapse in Carl-fidence brought on by the mainstream, corporate media.

Nice article from Coleman. Add to that mix is the fact that a terrorist organization in Pasadena has declared war on one racial group in Pasadena and conducted no fewer than 80 terrorist attacks on its members as reported by the Star News. The motive is not robbery according to the Star News. Is it part of some broader political statement? How can these attacks continue and be so unified in focus and purpose and motive? The terrorist group is the Pasadena Denver Lane Bloods. The victims of their terror attacks are sole, vunerable latinos and they beat them senseless.

Miss H. -- Rogelio was on our Wednesday A1. There's always a week-ish lagtime from the governor's office coming out with these things, possibly because they rely on press accounts.

Please add the following to the count. "There have been about 80 documented cases involving attacks on Hispanic men in Pasadena, including 56 in 2002, when most of them were reported. Since then, the trend has diminished, with 19 such cases reported this year, said Janet Pope Givens, spokeswoman for the Pasadena Police Department. Police have arrested 20 people believed connected to eight SOM incidents this year, Pope Givens said. Overall, violent crime fell 24 percent in Pasadena, according to FBI crime statistics for 2006, the latest year for which the numbers were available." - From the Pasadena Star News

That's shocking that the governor's office is so behind the times. They should be more interested in the citizens we are losing, and so should our mayor.

Not to sound like a total hippie but I must say that what Andre Coleman wrote at the end is true. Most politicians take the matter of racism as a political flag so that minorities will vote for them and that's more than wrong. Especially when a lot of these politicians are actually fighting on a racist side. Moreover, everyone claims to be so open minded but that is completely false. In fact, all you have to do is look at the questions the SAT asks you before you take the test; yes, I am saying those little check boxes where they ask you your ethnicity. Of course they leave one box so that the rebel can mark "prefer not to answer" but its better to mark the rarest ethnicity because you get a better scholarship. I think in order to fully get rid of racism we must destroy it from every part. It should be equal opportunity for scholarship/admissions/jobs for everyone and not for the people lucky enough to be 1/100th pacific islander.

You know what's annoying? It's when you click the Pacific Islander box on the eHarmony questionaire and as it turns out, you can't get a date in a hail storm. I think you have to be white and Christian maybe.I don't know. At least they sent along a nice rejection note saying that I was too, too special to ever have to need their services. Maybe I'm just too damn old or I'm looking for Jewish men in the wrong circles. Excuse me, the cheese just melted to the counter.
