We Can't let Old Town remain too attractive. It may cause property values to increase in surrounding areas. Increasing property values are the worst thing that can happen to any city.

If you took Fred Thompson, Chuck Norris, Jack Bauer, Optimus Prime, a .50 caliber Desert Eagle, a samurai sword, nachos, the lobby scene from the move Matrix, the computer game Doom, and a DVD set of the complete A-Team series and somehow took all their awesomeness and compressed into one thing, you'd still only have something half as awesome as what Aaron Proctor flushes down the toilet after taking a crap.

TODDY, On one of your other discussions here in your blog one of Robinsons supporters kind of spills the beans that she received 500 dols from Bakewell for her campaign. Can she vote on Bakewells project under our new city campaign law? or is it not a problem.

Measure B prohibits accepting a "campaign advantage" from anyone a council member has voted to support with contracts (or anything) that would have given financial gain, except for non-profits (which are exempted). It's an after the fact stricture, not one that could prevent any sort of "advance pay for votes" corruption. Jacque Robinson could have accepted huge campaign donations from Danny Bakewell and would still be free to vote for his project. Anyone notice a fatal flaw in Measure B, or at least a significant hole in the supposed taxpayer protections? FYI - because it's a non-profit, any of the Union Station staff or board members could contribute to support those council members or mayor who would have awarded them the contract, and may still vote to do so at the end of the day. People get to say pretty much anything they think or want to know about politicians in this country. It may be annoying to some, but thats the way it is. And we are very fortunate it is still like that (though maybe not for long at this rate). If politicians or their supporters cant take the heat, then get out of the kitchen.
