The Beat goes on

New episode of City Beat taped today up at Hens Teeth Square and will be broadcast on KPAS 55 and streamed over the Internet at 1:30 p.m. today and at varying times each day throughout the week.

City spokeswoman Ann Erdman did her best to keep Mayor Bill Bogaard and myself in-line and on-topic for the 30 minute discussion of the City Council's new anti-violence committee, John Muir High School, frustrations in the African-American community, and even brought up the idea of discussing the Non-Discussables. (Hint: They're not easy to discuss.)

I usually permit the mayor one Pasadena bragging point, but I don't think we got to staff writer Robert Hong's story today re: just how awesome Old Pas is.

We Can't let Old Town remain too attractive. It may cause property values to increase in surrounding areas. Increasing property values are the worst thing that can happen to any city.
Oh how I wish I could get the City Beat theme music. I love it cause it's so over-dramatic.
I think Cabaret Voltaire recorded a version of it in 1984.
I wish. I love Cabaret Voltaire. Sensoria!
No idea whom rf g-r is, but (s)he wins Poster of the Week award for dropping a Cabaret reference.
AP's site jogged a 25 year old memory of Micro-Phonies. I am very old.
Definitely post of the week. I'm 26 and I love Cabaret Voltaire. And Throbbing Gristle...and Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft..and Einsturzende Neubauten..all that good shit.
If you took Fred Thompson, Chuck Norris, Jack Bauer, Optimus Prime, a .50 caliber Desert Eagle, a samurai sword, nachos, the lobby scene from the move Matrix, the computer game Doom, and a DVD set of the complete A-Team series and somehow took all their awesomeness and compressed into one thing, you'd still only have something half as awesome as what Aaron Proctor flushes down the toilet after taking a crap.
Dude you need a girlfriend
LOL @ Anonymous II. At least I'm not a currently popular DJ near washed-up club promoter who has been under self-imposed exile in Pomona writing 3-page letters to editors of newspapers trying to dismiss the fact of how "Goth" I am.
TODDY, On one of your other discussions here in your blog one of Robinsons supporters kind of spills the beans that she received 500 dols from Bakewell for her campaign. Can she vote on Bakewells project under our new city campaign law? or is it not a problem.
What is there to vote on?? The Bakewell project is over...
No beans to spill its public records..Get some knowledge before you start talking..
Measure B prohibits accepting a "campaign advantage" from anyone a council member has voted to support with contracts (or anything) that would have given financial gain, except for non-profits (which are exempted). It's an after the fact stricture, not one that could prevent any sort of "advance pay for votes" corruption. Jacque Robinson could have accepted huge campaign donations from Danny Bakewell and would still be free to vote for his project. Anyone notice a fatal flaw in Measure B, or at least a significant hole in the supposed taxpayer protections? FYI - because it's a non-profit, any of the Union Station staff or board members could contribute to support those council members or mayor who would have awarded them the contract, and may still vote to do so at the end of the day. Paul - the real one, not the pretender(s)
People get to say pretty much anything they think or want to know about politicians in this country. It may be annoying to some, but thats the way it is. And we are very fortunate it is still like that (though maybe not for long at this rate). If politicians or their supporters cant take the heat, then get out of the kitchen.
